WAP support for 'Thinking Psychologically'

WAP (wireless application protocol) is a recent attempt to make cut-down versions of  web pages available via mobile phones. Since current mobile telephone networks only have limited bandwidth the experience of using wap can be frustrating as pages can take a while to download. Users have also disappointed that the hype around wap has not been matched by the systems in the field.

Nevertheless, the basic concept is sound. GPRS and UMTS (aka 3rd generation systems) are due to launch in 2002 and 2004 respectively and web access through mobile phones will take off as bandwidth increases exponentially.

For users with WAP enabled phones, further support for the text is available - as an experiment in m-learning (mobile learning).

By accessing the following page via a wap phone some (very basic) information on evaluating theories and experiments, and on ethics is available. There is also a very abbreviated miniglossary of concepts used in the book.

For those with no wap phone, a simulation of the Thinking Psychologically WAP pages is available through wapdrive.

It is believed that this is the first ever WAP support system for any psychology book anywhere in the world.

The wap address:

www.wapdrive.com/pm3pm3

Click on the link in a normal web browser to have a look at the simulation. Just type the address into a wap phone to access the link while mobile.  Email me with your thoughts and experience on using the Thinking Psychologically wap site.
